Discipline Priest

The priority

1. Pain Suppression — before a big hit on the tank
2. Power Word: Barrier — when the whole group is hurt
3. Penance — when the tank drops low
4. Power Word: Shield — when the tank is low and penance is down
5. Flash Heal — when the tank is low and your instants are down
6. Power Word: Radiance — before group damage
7. Power Word: Shield — before damage, or on hurt allies
8. Shadow Word: Pain — when it’s not on the target
9. Mindbender — with atonements out
10. Penance — with atonement out
11. Mind Blast — when it is ready
12. Power Word: Shield — to keep a couple of atonements out
13. Smite — as a filler

Common mistakes

• Waiting for damage before applying Atonement.
• Healing with direct heals when Atonement damage would heal everyone.
• Letting Shadow Word: Pain fall off.
• Pressing Pain Suppression after the big hit.

What’s simplified

• Each turn is one decision (about one global cooldown). Cooldowns and buff durations are converted to turns, so timing is approximate.
• SimulationCraft doesn’t model healing, so these priorities are our own, written from Blizzard’s spell tooltips and long-standing healing practice. Costs, cooldowns and durations come from Blizzard’s spell data. Treat it as a starting point, not a final word.
• The party is five allies. Injuries, a low tank and incoming group damage are scripted moments in each lesson, not a full health model: heals move allies from injured to healthy, and overhealing is not tracked.
• Atonement shows how many allies have it (up to 5); it lasts 10 turns. Penance heals 2 allies through Atonement, Mind Blast and Smite 1.
• Penance on a low tank heals them directly instead.
• Cooldowns in turns: Power Word: Shield 5, Penance 6, Mind Blast 6, Power Word: Radiance 12, Mindbender 40, Pain Suppression 120, Power Word: Barrier 120.

An Atonement party heal. Evangelism, Ultimate Penitence and hero talent effects are not modeled. Reviewed Oct 20, 2026. A training aid, not a damage simulator.
