Talents in WoW Forever: points, rows and your first build

Quick answer
You earn one talent point per level from 10, for 51 at level 60. Each class has three trees; a row opens after five more points in that tree, and some talents need another one maxed first. Most builds go deep in one tree for its big talents and put the rest in another.
Key takeaways
- 51 points at level 60, one per level from 10.
- Rows open every five points in the same tree.
- Some talents need another one at full rank first.
- Plan before you spend: resetting talents costs gold.
How do talent points work?
At level 10 you get your first point, then one more each level. Each class has three talent trees. You can spend points in any tree, but the deeper talents need points in that same tree first: the second row needs five, the third ten, and so on, up to the seventh row at thirty.
Some talents also need another talent at full rank first. Our Theorycrafter shows these as lines between talents.
Should I go deep in one tree or mix two?
The bottom of each tree usually holds its most powerful talent, so many builds spend 31 or more points in one tree, then put the rest into strong early talents of a second tree, for splits like 31/20/0 or 0/21/30.
While leveling, pick talents that make every fight smoother: damage, survivability and less downtime. You can specialise for dungeons or raids later.
Can I reset my talents?
In Classic, your class trainer could reset your talents for gold, and the price climbed each time you did it, slowly coming back down over time. We’ll confirm Forever’s exact costs at launch. Either way, it pays to plan.
Tip: Plan in the Theorycrafter, save the build to your character, and follow it point by point as you level.
What’s new in Forever’s talents?
The trees will look familiar, with new talents mixed in, merged weapon specializations, and new spells like Frostfire Bolt for mages. Exact numbers aren’t public yet, so plan by what each talent does.
What should I take first while leveling?
Early points should make every fight a little easier: more damage on your main attack or spell, faster casts, or less resource spent. Talents that only matter in raids, or that improve a spell you rarely use, can wait.
Look for talents that cut downtime too. Anything that restores health or mana, or lets you fight longer between rests, is worth more while leveling than its tooltip suggests.
When a tree’s bottom talent changes how your class plays, like a new button, aim for it. Those turning points make the long middle levels feel fresh.
